Week 3 Reflection

I feel like just yesterday we were all cast in the play.... although I feel like just yesterday I was taking that heavenly shower after my orientation experience.... It's hard to believe how much time has past. And Kelsey and I made a movie documenting all that time passing! PERFECT! The show went spectacularly last night. Although the energy was lower than friday, and there were more technical issues, the cast seemed effected more... like the message was more powerful. As soon as we got to the second act, it hit all the seniors that these would be our last moments on a proctor stage, for some of us, the last time on any stage... for me, possibly. I started to cry in the middle of my last song, and I couldn't bring myself to stop, and then my last line, "I regret, everything," felt like so much more, because in many ways, I regret everything at proctor. Wasting all this time, stumbling over fights with friends, or not appreciating the ones that have stuck by me through everything. I know I shouldn't be looking at it that way... Each senior broke down as soon as they exited the stage, and were greeted by a crowd of beautiful, talented, underclassmen, who I don't thing realize how lucky they are to have all the time left at Proctor.
Yesterday, Kels and I met around 12:30, and finished the movie. We tried desperately to add a title to the beginning, but imovie was very uncooperative. We printed out tons of pictures, and pasted them to posters, for our cast presents to terry, Michael, Kris and Kyle, which will double as our Senior project presentation (hey, we already have a whole movie..). We also gave each of them a "copy of our movie" which was really just a blank disc, but they will get one eventually! We decorated the movie case covers though. Haha, we put all the posters together in dunkie's, the most fitting place, i think, considering all the time we've spent there over the past weeks... if only it had been free iced coffee day! Oh goodness though, some of the looks we got were priceless! Anyway, we finished up around 5:30 and headed to the theatre for the last performance.
We are going to go to Brenda's after the strike today, to burn all the discs, and hopefully Jim Cox will be around to help us with that title snafu, and if he's not, we'll make do... Kels and I are fighters.

OPENING NIGHT!!! and last day... well....

today was such a long day!! Kelsey and I had out last chorus class today at 10:55... omg it was so sad. We all got really emotional and were crying... It may not seem like a big deal to many people, but it's a really amazing experience to be able to work with the same great group of people every day... making music... beautiful music that normally goes unappreciated these days... but to think that many of the graduating seniors may never have another choir like this one... and then of course there's Kris, who got really emotional too... but he means a lot to me, and I can't think of having any other conductor, but him. Anyway, this doesn't really have anything to do with our movie. SO. Kels and I, teary eyed, went to the tech dept after F block, so around 11:50 and worked on the movie will about 4:30... it was a long day, but we got all our narration done, and even cut the whole thing down a little. RIght now, the running time is about 35 mins, but it might be a little longer by the end of tomorrow... or maybe a little shorter... you can never really tell with things like this haha. Anyway, the movie is basically done. We still have a little left to do, so we're meeting tomorrow around 12:30 to finish up and burn it. Can't wait to get it out there! COME SEE THE PLAY TOMORROW!!!

Day four?

Today we had a choir sleep in, but I got to the tech department at about 12 to work on the program. IT TOOK A REALLY LONG TIME!!! I had to get help from a bunch of different people, and ended up using a completely different application that I started. The end result was good though... Terry and MIchael approved it, and I got over to the development office around 3:45 to run off 400 copies. As I'm sure you can imagine, that took a very long time too, but I folded them while they printed. Then Kels and I met in Brenda's lab around 4:30 to clean up the movie a little bit. We are done adding songs, so the only thing left to do is narrate it.

OOOOOOPS.... Kels just missed her cue.... uh oh.

Well anyway, tomorrow we're going to meet for the majority of the day and finish the movie up, so that we have the weekend to ourselves to write the self-evaluation.

Day three, week three

Today Kels and I met at the beginning of D block to work in the Lab. We chose songs for the fast-forwarded portions of our movie, with the help of Nick Clemens, and then made a detailed list of all the things that we need to film. Later in the day, Kelsey taped random people saying CABARET for the intro. And then we headed for rehearsal... which consisted mostly of sitting and listening to Michael make adjustments. I headed back to the tech lab to adjust a few things myself, and Kelsey headed of to record Nancy's interview. Our run through tonight is at 7, so if anyone out there wants to watch, the doors are open! Also, if anyone has any good song recommendations for the movie, send them our way. We need help!

Tuesday, week 3

Today Kelsey and I hunkered down to business. We went to F block in the morning, and then went to the Lab to work on the movie. We attempted to meet with Jim Cox about some questions involving the audio, but he was busy with his life, as many people seem to be in these last few weeks till graduation. But we did get a lot of stuff done. We selected a few songs and added them to some scenes in the movie. We also got an email back from all the faculty we emailed about interviews, so I'm very proud of them. I was convinced that they weren't going to reply so promptly. I had to do a similar thing for psychology, and unfortunately, I didn't get such a good response from all of them. We've selected the three faculty that we would like to interview for the actual movie, out of the nine or so that we actually emailed. Things are looking good. There are still a trillion things to do before the movie is finished and before the play goes up. I'm actually writing this between scenes in the left stage wing. I can hear Kels singing Mien Herr on stage, and Morgan talking to someone on Com, probably Harry who's in the booth. I see Joey frantically searching for his suspenders, and Paddy Stratton is reviewing the scene change list to see where he needs to place a table. It's in these moments that I realize how in the thick of it I am, and that I'm never going to get anything like this in college. The sad thing about this terribly happy moment is that maybe nothing else will ever measure up. Pictures to come later!
HOURS WORKED TODAY: 10:05- 12:00

Monday.... week 3

Kelsey and I have been having some marital issues, so I've moved back to campus. Life here is good... but because of our issues, we didn't spend much time together in the Lab today. Good thing we had extra hours from last week! I worked on the show program and poster, and then went to F block. We had a rehearsal just for scene changes all afternoon, and we are about to start a full run through, with shoes only, no costumes... Hopefully I'll have more to say tomorrow!
OH AND!!! I just found out that we are supposed to have our hours posted each day with our blog sooooooooo, today I worked from 10:55 till 11:50
THANKS!!

week two reflection

Oh goodness this week was long. Kelsey and I got so much of our movie done though! All that’s left is audio and aligning the clips more perfectly. We have a bunch of extra hours done this week as well. So, maybe since this week is production week, we can take it easier in the lab. I hope so! I’ve realized that I’m so incredibly tired during the day because we spend the majority of our time in front of a computer screen haha. That’s why I loved ice coffee day at Dunkie’s haha. I think this week, honestly, I learned a lot about myself… although it didn’t really have much to do with our project. I realized that I don’t want to work with kids the same age as the ones we worked with in the elementary school… I might not want to be a teacher at all. Good thing I didn’t pick my college based on my pre-decided major!! I don’t know if I’d be a good teacher… I felt like it was hard explaining to them all the components of acting. How it really is reality on stage. I know that at the age, I shouldn’t expect to get much of a true understanding from them, but I still don’t think that Kelsey and I got through. I know they were excited to see us though, for the second time. We walked into the classroom and they recognized us and waved. And after their performance, I saw a bunch of our kids look over at where we were sitting, hoping to see our smiles of approval. And I guess that’s all Kelsey and I can really ask for.
Production week is going to be really stressful. We hope on planning one night, perhaps the dress rehearsal, and going a couple of hours early to get ready ourselves, and then film everyone else getting ready. Of course no nudity haha, but makeup, and last minute problems, and the backstage chaos.
